Ms Lupe Garcia, a resident at the Santa Rita Housing in East Austin, specifically reached out to our Austin High group for support. We realized how there is such a need within our local community for assistance within these housing units, and sometimes the residents just don't know how to ask for help. After meeting and talking with Ms Lupe for over an hour, we learned about the mental illnesses that have developed throughout families in local housing. Support groups like our women's conference bring hope and comfort to residents, and encouraging women to take care of their emotional, physical, and mental health will encourage a supportive and hopeful environment at Santa Rita.

Subsidized housing units support families across the United States. In our home town, the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) provides Texans with affordable housing and has programs to support low income residents.
"It’s a lot of people with depression, a lot of young ladies that feel like they were left behind or just didn’t have that support. So these ladies here look for something exciting, and I have a lot of ladies that used to be real depressed and now join every event that we have."
